Visit Madrid, Barcelona or any of the big cities in Spain and you’ll find hotels on offer much the same as anywhere else in the world. However, venture on the “road less travelled” and you’ll find the charming and the cheap where you never dreamed you would!
Spain offers something that many other countries don’t – the “Casas rurales”. Basically speaking these are grand homes, farmhouses, cottages, villas or apartments that are “owner owned” and off the beaten track! OK, you might not get a mini-bar or Double Glazing if you stay there, but many are charming, unusual and steeped in history – a great way to get to know the REAL Spain.
There’s plenty on offer for Backpackers, which are very reasonably priced in all seventeen regions of Spain. The Mid-priced hotels or “hosteles” are all of around the same standard and, although you shouldn’t expect luxury, you CAN expect Air Conditioning and cleanliness.
Top of the range in Spain are the 4 and 5 star luxury hotels. Visit Madrid and stay at the famous Reina Victoria or The Ritz. Then there’s the Londres y de Inglaterra in San Sebastian and the Hotel Claris in Barcelona – which is home to an incredible collection of artefacts! The largest room in the Hotel Claris is in fact 480 square feet and includes your very own Hindu Statues, Art Nouveau furniture and fittings and a fantastic hydro massage tub with sauna!
All in all Spain offers a fantastic selection of places on which to “olay” your head … !
